Be careful with what you read elsewhere and do your homework. The only two medical specialties that have formal training in their residency programs and treat keloids very frequently are the dermatologists and the plastic and reconstructive surgeons. Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons are the only specialists with formal training in residency that will take care of the large and most complex keloids and ugly scars from head to toe, using surgical techniques in which many times flaps have to be formed to cover large defects (Z-plastics and rotation flaps). As Plastic Surgeons, aesthetic principles are always considered to get the most pleasing results.
At The Keloid Plastic Surgery Center, keloids are what we do. We are the only Plastic Surgery Office in South Florida run by two board-certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, and one of the few in the U.S.A. using the latest XRT technology to treat keloids with proven lower recurrence rates.
Our doctors at The Keloid Plastic Surgery Center are board-certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons that have treated keloids from most if not all parts of the body. Dr. Roberto Mendez and Dr. Gabriel Salloum have treated not only the simplest but also the most complex and severe types of keloids. Among them are keloid scars after surgery for the removal of the appendix, removal of the gallbladder, removal of part of the bowel, C- Section, Cardiothoracic surgery, liposuction, Breast Surgery, Tummy Tuck, and orthopedic surgery. We have treated patients from all over the world, including from Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

Our Doctors
Dr. Roberto J. Mendez and Dr. Gabriel Salloum decided to form The Keloid Plastic Surgery Center because they have both witnessed how devastating the keloids can be and because most physicians are frustrated with the usual modalities of treatment for keloids. They are both board-certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons who combined have over 37 years in practice. They have treated thousands of patients since they started their practices, and among those are patients with keloids that have been severe, complex, and that have recurred from previous treatments. They believe in the same principles of providing the highest standards of care and in treating patients with the utmost respect they deserve. They have always focused on the basic principle that patients always come first.

Mr. Luis Herrera
Mr. Herrera graduated in 1998 from the world renowned Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) school for Radition Therapy in NYC. He is certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART) and a member of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) since 1999.
His first job was in MSKKC in New York where he got very specific training of treating not only keloids, but also different types of tumors.
In Florida, he has worked at Holy Cross Hospital, Aventura Hospital and Memorial Hospital where he got experience working with with linear accelerators.
Mr. Herrera has vast experience treating skin cancers and keloids, and has seen first hand the benefit of combined advanced Plastic Surgery techniques with S.R.T. for these patients to get better cosmetic results.
Luis is grateful for having been trained in one of the best training programs for radiologic technologists in the world and enjoys working with people and the feeling of giving care and comfort to his patients.
